With nearly three decades of diverse global marketing and branding experience to her credit, Ms. So has garnered a laudable reputation as a leader in creating culture-spanning, internationally minded strategies for businesses across numerous industry sectors and multiple geographic regions. She attained both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and began her career as a management trainee with HSBC before joining Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation as a sales manager. In this capacity, Ms. So oversaw a sales team responsible for more than 200 corporate accounts, and began developing a suite of holistic marketing, communications, and sales skills in addition to specialized knowledge of financial services. She further developed her marketing knowledge at Culturecom Limited, a print media licensing and publishing group focusing on developing a retail market for specialty magazines, comic books and licensed IP items. During her three years with Culturecom, Ms. So developed a regional long-term marketing strategy and brand identity for a chain of 20 retail stores targeting teenage consumers.
In late 1990s, Ms. So was named as the Philips Electronics' Domestic Appliances and Personal Care Division's product marketing manager for the Asia Pacific region. Having already established a record of accomplishment of driving strong brand presence in previously undeveloped markets in the media and financial services sectors, she worked with the company's Netherlands head office to create a localized market strategy and navigate Philips' majority-share acquisition of JVC, including contract negotiations, cross-cultural communications consulting and the positioning and rebranding of JVC products under the new agreement. Ms. So had led Philips to become the top manufacturer in her managed categories in the Asia-Pacific market, with strong positioning for continued growth across the product portfolio.
Ms. So would build for the next six years upon her success in the medical and healthcare market as a marketing director for Dentsply Asia and Raffles Medical Group. At Dentsply, she led marketing, KOL relations, endorsements and sales for the entire Asia Pacific market, and initiated new product and pricing strategies in conjunction with the company's research and development centers all over the world, which would lead to consistent double-digit sales and revenue increases during each year of her tenure. In the Singapore-based Raffles Medical Group, Ms. So built academic and governmental partnerships to help increase awareness and availability of healthcare services in Hong Kong including screenings, treatment packages and consulting.
Since late 2008, Ms. So has served as the group marketing director for the Yew Chung Education Foundation, Yew Chung International Schools and Yew Wah International Education Schools, an international educational network with over ten locations across Hong Kong, China, North America and United Kingdom. Her role involved not only constructing a modern and competitive marketing message for the group, but also building an international admissions and marketing team from the ground up. Her approach focused on the creation of a distinct brand presence via both digital and traditional channels and the development of local professional admissions teams to drive enrollment conversion and position the schools as unique players in a highly competitive market. Since the adoption of Ms. So's aggressive branding strategy, both brands have consistently been built based on the unique education philosophy which combines the essence of Western & Eastern cultures. Ms. So considers her work with the Yew Chung Education Foundation to be among the most transformative of both her career and personal life. She was able to develop and oversee an entire branding and marketing initiative from its inception. On a personal level, she experienced the most diverse, multicultural and dynamic environment which developed her as a flexible, agile and open-minded leader.
As a growth-oriented professional, Ms. So is dedicated to remaining on the cutting edge of her profession, and has pursued extensive continuing education. She has completed coursework through the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina and the Business School, University of Michigan, among others, and holds a certified digital marketing professional credential from the Digital Marketing Institute. She also completed a professional certificate in digital marketing analytics from MIT Sloan School of Management in 2019. Fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, Ms. So hopes to leave Hong Kong in the coming years in order to pursue other personal and professional opportunities.
