He initially pursued an education at Saint Gregory's University, graduating in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Science. He additionally enjoyed a fifteen-year career with the United States Army Reserves. Mr. Clegg continued his academic efforts at the University of Oklahoma, earning a Master of Arts in administrative leadership in 2020. He is now a doctoral candidate (Doctor of Education in Organizational Change and Leadership) at the University of Southern California.
Mr. Clegg credits his success to being the first to market in Springfield with a creative pastry concept, as well as to Hurts' ongoing partnerships with local charities and community groups. Hurts Donut Company has expanded to more than 20 franchise locations across the United States. In the coming years, Mr. Clegg hopes to continue to grow the business.
Among many other honors, Mr. Clegg was celebrated as the 2019 Missouri Entrepreneur of the Year, and Hurts was recognized as #1 of the Dynamic Dozen Fastest-Growing Companies in Missouri. He has been profiled in a 2020 Newsweek piece, in which Hurts was recognized for America's Best Customer Service in the donut category. Mr. Clegg also participates on the board of the Mid-America chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, and is an active member of the International Franchise Association.
