One highlight of Dr. Jan Franklin Branthaver's career has been the research he has completed on the structure of Abelsonite, a mineral found in the Green River Formation in Colorado.

After graduating from Millikin University in Decatur, IL, with a Bachelor of Arts in 1958, Dr. Branthaver began his career as a research aide with North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, between 1964 to 1976. During this time, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the aforementioned university in 1976. Subsequently, he accepted a position as a research chemist with Laramie Energy Technology Center in Wyoming from 1976 to 1983. Dr. Branthaver concluded his career as a program manager with the Western Research Institute in Laramie, WY from 1983 until 2002.
During his prolific career, Dr. Branthaver served in the United States Army Reserves between 1959 and 1965. Contributing his research to over 90 articles for professional publications, he has excelled as an editor for "Metal Complexes in Fossil Fuels" in 1987 and "Poems and Letters of William Author Goss" in 2012. A member of the American Chemical Society, Dr. Branthaver has also been affiliated with the Chatham Railroad Museum Association.
