Now retired after more than four decades of excellence in his field, Dr. Woronick began his distinguished career as an assistant professor of chemistry at Brown University in 1962. Four years later, he transitioned out of academia, when he was hired by the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia as an associate non-clinician investigator and an associate in pathology. Following these appointments, Dr. Woronick began a long and successful career in 1968 with the Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. Serving for two and a half decades at the hospital as a biochemist, he continued as a research analyst for a year before retiring.

Highly regarded in his professional community, Dr. Woronick served as a research biochemist at Hartford Hospital from 1968 to 1993 and was a member of the Consultant staff at the University of Connecticut John Dempsey Hospital between 1975 and 1993. He was also was a member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry sub commerce committee from 1976 until 1981 and a review panelist member for the National Research Council between 1984 and 1993. Dr. Woronick was appointed as an assistant professor of laboratory medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington from 1973 to 1993.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Woronick received a Bachelor of Science in poultry husbandry at the University of Connecticut in 1953, followed by a Master of Science in nutrition at the University of California Berkley in 1955 and a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1959. He subsequently was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the National Science Foundation for further training at the Nobel Medical Institute in Stockholm Sweden with Nobel laureate professor Hugo Theorell from 1959 to 1961, and from the National Institutes of Health for the Nobel Medical Institute from 1961 to 1962. A renowned chemist, Dr. Woronick was the first to crystalize the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase from human liver. Dr. Woronick has been author or coauthor of more than 100 articles and text chapters in scientific publications.

Aligned with several prominent industry related organizations, Dr. Woronick is most notably an elected fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemists. A former Connecticut Valley section chairman of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry, he is likewise a past president of the Hartford chapter of Sigma Xi and member of the Association of Clinical Scientists. In 1987, Dr. Woronick was the recipient of the Susman Award from the Infectious Disease Society. He was also named to the Connecticut Hall of Fame in Meriden.
