He formerly taught medicine and oncology at Johns Hopkins University Medical School and worked in the field as an attending physician at Baltimore City Hospitals and The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Anderson likewise served as the director of the department of medical oncology and the chief of the department of medicine at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, and an assistant professor of oncology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
During Dr. Anderson's impressive career, he excelled as a founding director of the Cancer Center of Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Forum for Health Care Ethics and the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center. He also held the post of the president and chairman of the board of directors of Preferred Physicians Inc. and, among other roles, was the president and founder of Timberline Medical Associates and Oncology Management Network Inc. Meanwhile, Dr. Anderson has been prolifically active as a member of several community organizations, some of which included helping with founding the Southern Colorado AIDS Project, serving on the tumor registry advisory board of the Colorado State Board of Health and chairing the medical ethics committee of the El Paso County Medical Society. He was also Co-chairman of the Colorado Springs Medical-Legal Ethics Club.
Dr. Anderson received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Colorado in 1959 and 1963, respectively. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship and residency and fellowship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Medical Management and the American Board of Medical Oncology. As a researcher in the medical field, Dr. Anderson disseminated many of his findings in various medical journals. He also found success as the editor for Advances in Cancer Control, and was a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Cancer Program Management and Health Care Management Review.
Aligned with various industry-related organizations, Dr. Anderson distinguished himself as the president of the Association of Communication Cancer Centers and the Rocky Mountain Oncology Society. He was also active on many committees as a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the National Cancer Institute, the American Association of Cancer Institutes and the Colorado Springs Medical Legal Ethics Club. Furthermore, Dr. Anderson was a member of the Coalition for Cancer, the American Academy of Medical Directors and the Colorado Society of Internal Medicine, among others.
