Not one to limit herself to a particular medium, Gail Parent has also written and co-written countless works in film and on Broadway.
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA, August 12, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gail Parent has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After earning a Bachelor of Science from New York University in the mid-1960s, Ms. Parent was plucked from the prestigious academic institution to write for "The Carol Burnett Show." As the only female writer for the series at the time, she wrote on the staff for five seasons and earned five Emmy Awards nominations for her work in addition to one win. Over the years, Ms. Parent has been nominated for 17 Emmy Awards and won two Emmy Awards for her work on such classic comedies as "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," "The Golden Girls," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Rhoda," "Sills and Burnett at the Met," which she co-wrote with Kenny Solms, and the HBO series "Tracey Takes On" starring Tracey Ullman.
With similar writing styles and senses of humor, Ms. Parent and Mr. Solms collaborated on a plethora of works, including "Ann-Margret: From Hollywood with Love," "The Many Sides of Don Rickles" and "Annie and the Hoods." Continuing her work with Mr. Solms, she collaborated with her writing partner and melded the variety show format with situational comedy with "3 Girls 3," with which she was once again playing dual roles as a writer and producer. Despite "3 Girls 3" being touted as "easily the freshest, liveliest and most exciting premiere of a series that television has concocted in years" by the New York Times, the series only aired for four episodes before Ms. Parent and her collaborator moved on to their next project.
Not one to limit herself to a particular medium, Ms. Parent has also written and co-written countless works in film and on Broadway, including "Cadet Kelly" starring Hilary Duff, "The Main Event" featuring Barbara Streisand, "Cross My Heart" starring Martin Short, "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" starring Lindsay Lohan and the Broadway musical "Lorelei" featuring Carol Channing. In addition to gaining a stellar reputation as a writer, she began producing when Joe Hamilton created a variety series for the Smothers Brothers. Not only was this a marker of personal success, but for women in the workplace at large, as Ms. Parent had been denied a job by the Smothers' in previous years because they had not felt comfortable adding her to their all-male writing staff.
Refusing to rest on her laurels, Ms. Parent has found success as a novelist as well, authoring "Sheila Levine is Dead and Living in New York," "David Meyer Is a Mother," "A Little Bit Married," "The Art of War For Lovers, " "A Sign of the Eighties" and "How To Raise Your Adult Children." Additionally, she teamed up with her son, Kevin, to write two episodes of Steven Spielberg's anthology series "Amazing Stories," and co-wrote a play with Stacy Sherman titled "Euthanasia – Almost a Musical." A trailblazing writer and comedienne, she was notably featured in CNN's series "The History of Comedy." Looking forward, Gail Parent intends to continue doing what she loves.
