Mr. Mullen joined the U.S. Army Security Agency after high school and spent the majority of his time on Bad Aibling, Germany. Upon discharge from military service he earned a Bachelor of Science in finance from Arizona State University. After graduating he served as a financial analyst and treasurer for Amerco. Following these appointments, Mr. Mullen was recruited as the vice president of the Southwest Pipe and Supply Company.
Mr. Mullen later found success as the treasurer and the vice president of Talley Industries, Inc. as well as the chief operating officer of Friendship Publications. He currently serves as the treasurer and director of the Continental Leasing Company, a hedge fund of which his sons are the owners. Throughout the years, Mr. Mullen has also participated on the board of directors of the C. Myers Corporation, U-Haul International, the Oxford Life Insurance Company, Amerco and Rep West.
While working with Talley Industries earlier in his career, Mr. Mullen utilized his expertise to finance the company after major losses in a business segment so that they would not have to file bankruptcy. He was proud to have helped keep the company together. Mr. Mullen also finances scholarships in his father's name and volunteers at a local food bank.
As a diligent member of his community, Mr. Mullen has been active as a delegate of the Arizona Presidential Democratic Convention. He is also associated with the Big Sisters of Arizona, the Foundation for Blind Children, the Phoenix Little Theatre, the Kachina Country Day School, the New Way School and Interfaith Cooperative Ministries. Likewise, Mr. Mullen maintains his professional affiliation with Financial Executives International.
