Drawing inspiration from his father's stellar work ethic, Dr. O'Connor pursued a career in dentistry, combining his love for hands-on work with his innate scientific curiosity. Between the mid-1970s and the sale of his practice in 2019, he provided his clients with appropriate treatment plans based on their individual needs. Upon conveying in-depth explanations of his proposed treatments, Dr. O'Connor succinctly and effortlessly executed a quadrant approach.
With his patients' comfort at the forefront of his practice, Dr. O'Connor also utilized Fotona lasers to ameliorate post-operative discomfort and dental hypersensitivity, prepare cavities for filling and provide periodontal therapies. Prior to establishing his practice, he gained valuable expertise in private practice with his father, Dr. Lauriston O'Connor. Throughout his career, Dr. O'Connor has been affiliated with several industry organizations, including the New York State Dental Society, the Monroe County Dental Association, the National Dental Association, the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. O'Connor completed his junior year majoring in chemistry and biology at Kentucky State. He then entered dental school. He subsequently obtained a Doctor of Dental Medicine through the University of Kentucky College Of Dentistry. He later completed a postdoctoral dental residency at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health and externships at Genesee Hospital (then known as Eastman Dental Center), during which time he wrote an abstract on the "Use of Ultrasonics in Root Canal Therapy." Along with a Xerox electrical engineer, Dr. O'Connor also built a prototype of the envisioned ultrasonic device.
Dedicated to his community, Dr. O'Connor has also volunteered with the Urban League. Outside of his work, he channeled his creative side into releasing an original alternative music album titled, "Time Traveled"/(Docmatrix) in 2019. Dr. O'Connor's music can currently be found on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Prime, YouTube, etc.
For his outstanding body of work, Dr. O'Connor recently earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of General Dentistry. Despite his professional successes, he is most proud of his three daughters, Candice, who is pursuing a master's degree in public health at Binghamton University; Elena, an operatic soprano; and Ashonte, who lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with his three grandchildren. In the coming years, Dr. O'Connor intends to foster his creative side through his gallery and women's apparel artwork on www.ShopVida.com/docmatrix.
