Arlene Luster-Hanusey Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Arlene Luster-Hanusey has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the library sciences industry



    HONOLULU, HI, August 31, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Arlene Luster-Hanusey, aka Arlene Doong Chow Leong, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Arlene Luster-Hanusey celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Supported by many years of professional excellence, Dr. Luster-Hanusey currently serves as the proprietor of Innovative Management Solutions. At the beginning of her career, she worked as a Hospital/Medical librarian for Harbor General Hospital in California before starting her Department of Defense (DOD) positions as Base Librarian at Fuchu Air Station, in Tokyo and Hickam and Wheeler AFB in Hawaii. She was promoted to Naval Regional Librarian at Pearl Harbor and Command Librarian for the Headquarters Pacific Air Forces at Hickam AFB to provide administrative library support for the entire Western Pacific area that included more than 80 ship and shore libraries. She transferred to Ramstein AB in Germany as Technical Services Librarian and later became the Library Director for the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies. After retirement, she worked for the Army as the Library Director at Hanau and Wiesbaden libraries in Germany. During her DOD library services, she also served on the OCLC Users Council. Other non-DOD library positions include working as Assistant Acquisitions Librarian at the University of Hawaii and Library Director at the Hawaii Tokai International College. She was also an Adjunct Professor for five years at the Graduate School of Library Studies at the University of Hawaii. She also taught library public relations at the Leeward Community College in Hawaii and Appalachia State University in North Carolina.

An expert in her field, Dr. Luster-Hanusey earned a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Woman's University, a Master of Library Science from Case Western University and a Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California. Her dissertation focused on her training Naval officers to become library officers on board ship. It was titled "Perceptions held by Library Officers of Inservice Training Needs for an Effectively Administered Program Afloat within the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean Areas." In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she is affiliated with the Hawaii and American Library Associations, International Federation of Library Associations and the Fuzhou Library Society. She wrote a weekly column called Words from Wheeler for the Wahiawa Press and was the editor of the HLA Journal. She is also certified to teach English as a Second Language and tai-chi/qigong classes and qualified to perform reiki and Access Consciousness modalities.

Due to her professional accomplishments, Dr Luster-Hanusey accepted numerous Air Force Library Publicity awards, three John Cotton Dana Public Relations Awards, Newsbank Scholarship Award, and Distinguished Service Librarian awards from the Hawaii Library Association (HLA) and Federal Librarians Roundtable (FLRT) and the Armed Forces Librarians Section (AFLRT) Achievement Award from the American Library Association (ALA). She also held a number of offices in ALA and HLA. She is additionally featured in the 17th, 18th and 63rd editions of Who's Who of American Women and the 13th edition of Who's Who in the World as well as an Honored Member of the Cambridge Who's Who in 2011-12 edition.
