Mr. Skidmore formerly served as National President U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, Vice President and President of Handy Associates, New York, as well as several other significant roles with Pepsi Cola Company Inc. and New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and Assistant to the President of the United States.
Some of Mr. Skidmore's other significant roles have included lecturing at several international schools, including the University of Amsterdam and Tokyo University and as a guest columnist for the Rotary International and Kiwanis magazines. His speech, the "True Test of Leadership" produced by Businessman's Record Club, where the proceeds of all 35,000 copies sold went to charity. Moreover, Mr. Skidmore has played an active role on numerous boards, including on the Board of Directors of Coca Cola Bottling Company (NYSE), the Board of Directors for United Jersey Banks (NYSE), the Board of Directors of Newark Brush Company, and on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce, for which he contributed for nearly two decades between 1984 and 2003. Additionally, he was further associated as a Trustee for several educational institutions and hospitals and has served +30 years on the Board and Executive Committee for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.
Since the mid-1960's, Mr. Skidmore has been involved in various community and civic initiatives, beginning as a member of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency between 1965 and 1966. He garnered a reputation as a Member of the Executive Board for the Boy Scouts of America's Watchung area council and, among other roles, was active as the National Field Director for United Citizens for Nixon-Agnew, later served on the Transition Team and as an Assistant to President Nixon An alumnus of Muhlenberg College, Mr. Skidmore acquired a Bachelor of Arts in 1954 in Economics. He subsequently served on Active Duty for three years in the U.S. Marine Corps between 1954 and 1957. (Reserves - 1952 to 1962). He was an Honors' Graduate for the U.S. Marine Corps officers' candidate program and later completed postgraduate coursework at Duke University in 1984.
Affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Muhlenberg College Alumni Association, Mr. Skidmore has also enjoyed several vocational memberships: the Marine Corps League, National Association of Corporate Directors, The Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children. He is active with the Longboat Key Club, Baltusrol Golf Club, and was chairperson for The Players Club. In recognition of his career, military and volunteer endeavors, Mr. Skidmore received numerous awards and recognitions. Among them, he was recognized with the decorated order of St. John for "Exceptional Service to Mankind" in 1972, with the Freedom Foundation George Washington Medal of Honor Award 1965, the Trinidad and Tobago Award from the Prime Minister of Ireland in 1970, the Human Relations Award from the Society of Advancement of Management in 1982, the Distinguished Citizens Award from the Boy Scouts of America in 1983, and the National Private Sector Volunteer Award from President Reagan in 1985.
