He hopes to eventually return to higher education as a director or professor in order to help shape the next generation of educators and administrators.
BROWNSVILLE, TX, September 09, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Smith has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Smith is an educator and tutor with more than a decade of excellence supporting math and science students at the K-12 and college levels. Fascinated with the profession of education while coming of age, his passion for working with others developed into an outstanding academic record and participation in peer mentor and tutor programs. He attended Jackson State University on a musical scholarship, becoming a National Dean's List scholar and winning a National Science Award before graduating with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and a minor in music performance. In 2011, Mr. Smith completed a Master of Science degree in mathematics at the University of Texas at Brownsville.
Shortly after completing his undergraduate degree, Mr. Smith accepted a position as a full-time tutor at a local college. Already accustomed to working with students, he found the academic environment and student community to be a perfect fit, and contributed for several years offering remedial and supportive instruction for a wide range of the school's science and mathematics courses. After years of specializing in one-on-one instruction with postsecondary students, Mr. Smith realized the potential that effective K-12 classroom teachers had in influencing students' understanding of material and attitudes regarding education, and began a transition toward teaching in a public school setting.
Mr. Smith continues to provide mentoring and tutorial services in the areas of mathematics, science and music to students in the Rio Grande Valley, and he hopes to eventually return to higher education as a director or professor in order to help shape the next generation of educators and administrators. He attributes his success to his parents' encouragement and enthusiasm for lifelong learning, and considers it an honor to help his students achieve their academic goals. As a part of his commitment to promoting positive outcomes for all members of the community, Mr. Smith is an advocate, volunteer and donor for Saint Jude's Hospital, and a member of the Texas Teachers Classroom Association.
