Leading an impressive career in engineering that spanned almost four decades, Mr. Adrien retired in 2000 as a group leader and senior engineer at Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jernigan Inc. in Miami, Florida, but he continued working as an international consultant in Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean. His wealth of expertise also included various civil engineering positions with consulting firms, as well as with the U.S. Agency for International Development, the World Health Organization, the Interamerican Development Bank and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Grateful to work in such a rewarding field, Mr. Adrien decided to pursue environmental and sanitary engineering because they were very critical to society while he was growing up during the 1960s and 1970s.
Following high school, Mr. Adrien pursued a formal education in his home country, receiving a diploma in civil engineering at the University of Haiti in 1961. Accepted to the prestigious Harvard University, he acquired both a Master of Science in sanitary engineering in 1967 and a Master of Engineering in water resources/environmental planning in 1969. Mr. Adrien remains a registered professional engineer in Florida and was formerly registered in Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was also certified as a diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers in 1975.
Years after retiring, Mr. Adrien began writing. He published "Computational Hydraulics and Hydrology: An Illustrated Dictionary" in 2003, followed by "Processing Water, Wastewater, Residuals, and Excreta for Health and Environmental Protection: An Encyclopedic Dictionary" in 2008. He is presently working on a series of books on environmental engineering. An elected fellow and life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Mr. Adrien is also a life member of the American Water Works Association. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in the 29th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry and the eighth edition of Who's Who in the World.
