FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA, October 01, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Nancy G. Boyer, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Boyer celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having retired in 2020 following a long and distinguished career in academia, Dr. Boyer previously specialized in teaching English as a second language. Having contributed for nearly three decades in the classroom at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California, she also served as the chairperson of the ESL department for more than 20 years. Additionally, she held faculty appointments at the American Cultural Center in Madrid, Church College of Western Samoa in Pesega, Brigham Young University in both Hawaii and Utah, Arkansas State University, Arkansas State University, Kuwait University School of Allied Health, Pasadena City College, and L.A. Southwest College. Dr. Boyer taught for more than four decades and plans to volunteer at Golden West College in the future.
Inspired by her aunt, who was also a teacher, Dr. Boyer originally planned to teach Spanish in the U.S. after graduation from college, but positions in the field were difficult to secure. Making the decision to follow a fellow classmate to Madrid, Spain, she eventually became affiliated with the American Cultural Center. Upon returning to the United States a few years later, she pursued a Master's in Teaching English as a Second Language as jobs in ESL were on the rise both in the U.S. and internationally.
Born and raised in California and Oregon, Dr. Boyer studied at Oregon State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1972. She subsequently received a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language at Brigham Young University in 1976, and a Doctor of Philosophy in international and intercultural education at the University of Southern California in 1998. To remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Boyer maintained her membership with such organizations as California Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Language (CATESOL) and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Language (TESOL). A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been showcased in the 25th and 25th editions of Who's Who in the West.
