Dr. Fisher is a retired physician and general surgeon who practiced medicine for nearly five decades. The former president of Surgeons, Inc., in Marion, Indiana, he also enjoyed a tenured career at Marion General Hospital, where he ultimately achieved the title of chief of staff.
A prolific author, Dr. Fisher contributed a book about the history of medicine in "History of Grant County Medicine, 1830-1941" in 2013, a collection of historical facts taken from Grant County minute books. He also published "20th Century Grant County, Indiana, Medicine and Physician Profiles" in 2014, which includes a brief history of medicine practiced in Grant County during the 20th century and features profiles of numerous physicians that practiced medicine in the county since 1931. Other books to his credit include "A History of Kingsway Country Club" in 2012; "Progenitors and Progeny of Dr. Pierre J. Fisher Jr. and Carol Ann Walton" in 2015; "The History of the Royal Order of Ponce de Leon Conquistadors" in 2017; "Out of a Tempest Emerged the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, History of the First Fifty Years" in 2018.
As part of his established commitment to civic endeavors. Dr. Fisher recently served as vice president of the board of directors of the Charlotte County Cultural Center from 2005 to 2020. Dr. Fisher received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University in 1956. He then completed an internship at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, California in 1957, and completed a residency in general surgery at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia in 1961. He attained the rank of lieutenant commander and resigned his commission in 1965. He was a recovery surgeon for NASA's Project Mercury program.
He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a respected fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Fisher has supported his professional career as a member of several other organizations as well. He is a member and past president of the Grant County Medical Society and the North America Medical Golf Association, and is a member of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Fisher's incredible career earned him recognition by the American Medical Association with a Physician's Recognition Award on five separate occasions between 1974 and 1989. He was later the recipient of a "50 Years in Medicine" Award from the Indiana Medical Association in 2006 and was named to the Marion High School Hall of Distinction in Marion, Indiana, in 20 II. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Fisher has been showcased in over 50 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
