With decades of medical expertise to his credit, Dr. Isaacson consistently exhibited an affinity for science throughout his formative years. As he completed his secondary education, he desired a career which would allow him to help others while also surrounding himself with peers who could facilitate a never-ending learning experience. Subsequently, he resolved to pursue a career in medicine with a specialization in oncology.
Prior to his success, Dr. Isaacson completed pre-medical coursework at an accredited university and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Thomas Jefferson University Sidney Kimmel Medical College in 1973. Between 1974 and 1978, he completed residencies in general surgery at Albington Memorial Hospital and in otolaryngology at the University of Pennsylvania. He concluded his educational ventures by completing a residency in radiation oncology at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, now known as the State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University.
Since 1988, Dr. Isaacson has performed in multiple capacities for the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Throughout his tenure, he excelled as the co-director of the Columbia University Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center gamma knife program, the co-director of radiosurgery and an attending physician at the aforementioned academic medical facility. He currently retains the title of professor emeritus of radiation oncology and neurological surgery at Columbia University.
As a testament to his accomplishments, Dr. Isaacson has been honored as Castle Connelly's America's Top Doctors from 2002 to 2014, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, among other designations. Likewise, he is featured in past editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and is an elected member of the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons' Academy of Clinical Excellence. Dr. Isaacson hopes to continue mentoring forthcoming doctors and advise his former colleagues in their professional pursuits in the near future.
