A graduate of the University of Southern California, Mr. Heller had initially planned to attend law school after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1989. By his last year of undergraduate study, Mr. Heller was uninterested in spending three or more years in school before beginning his career, and reached out to the school's extensive business network to find a job in management or finance.
From 1989 until 1991, Mr. Heller was a territory sales representative for the Pillsbury Company, where he quickly gained a reputation as a high performer and worked with the largest independent supermarket distributor in the Central Valley region of California. He left Pillsbury in 1991 to join Independent Capital Management, a start-up investment brokerage based in Torrance, California, specializing in mutual funds, annuities and life insurance for a diverse client base. Immediately, Mr. Heller realized that the financial services sector was a perfect fit for his skills and personality, and "never looked back."
Mr. Heller departed from Independent Capital Management the following year to pursue an opportunity with Wells Fargo Securities, becoming one of the first investment advisors hired for their fledgling retail brokerage division. After two years in retail banking and brokerage, Mr. Heller was named vice president of Banc of America Investment Services, where he managed investment portfolios for small business clients and supervised hiring and retention of new advisory and support staff until departing in 2003 to establish Willner Heller. Mr. Heller was named a Five-Star Wealth Manager in 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2021 and voted the San Fernando Valley Business Journal's most trusted wealth advisor for 2013.
Mr. Heller is committed to advancing community development and philanthropic initiatives, and has served as chair of the Valley Board of Directors of the ADL as well as chairing the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee and the Calabasas Parks, Recreation and Education Commission, who presented him with a Merit Award for his service. He is the current president of the Agoura Hills, Calabasas Community Center Alliance and remains active in volunteer alumni functions at the University of Southern California, including terms as chief financial officer and member of the board of the USC Hillel Foundation.
