CHAPEL HILL, NC, November 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard Rees, PhD has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Celebrating more than 30 years of innovation in the development of fungicides and herbicides, Dr. Rees is a renowned research scientist and senior science fellow with Bayer Corporation. He is perhaps most prominent for his work in the development of pyraclonil, a market-leading rice herbicide licensed for use in Japan. He began working in agriculture at a young age, digging potatoes and harvesting flowers on an island off the coast of France. The experience was formative for Dr. Rees, leaving him with a passion for the commercial farming industry and an in-depth understanding of the value of pest and plant disease management.
In 1977, Dr. Rees earned a Bachelor of Science in agricultural sciences at the University of Nottingham. He subsequently graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in plant biochemistry at Nottingham Trent University in 1986. Certified as a biologist, his research has included significant developments in industrial pesticides, turf protection, and compounds for use in mitigating damage to native plant populations by invasive insect and fungus species. Dr. Rees has excelled with Bayer Corporation since 2002, and prior legacy companies since 1986, flourishing for ten years as a project leader with a staff of 25 before advancing to become a senior research and development fellow in 2012.
Dr. Rees attributes his success to hard work, a genuine love of the work that he conducts and his dedication to lifelong learning. He strives to never give up, as the solution to many scientific problems is where it is least expected, and counsels others in the field to maintain a similar mindset. He is active in charitable initiatives through his local food bank and United Way chapter, and is a professional member of the Royal Society of Biology. Looking toward the future, Dr. Rees is beginning to plan his well-deserved retirement from corporate research and development, and looks forward to continuing independently in his field as a researcher and consultant.
