Having recently became Laboratory Director (LD) for two medical laboratories in California, Synergy Diagnostic Laboratories Inc. in Costa Mesa, and Orange Toxicology Laboratory Inc. in San Bernardino, Dr. Chou has garnered a laudable reputation as a renowned clinical chemist. He is the founder and former president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Specialty Reference Laboratory Inc., which he maintained from 1989 to 2001, and the founder, director and former chief executive officer (CEO) of the Radioimmunoassay (RIA) Center Inc., where he served between 1976 to 1988. Most prominently, however, Dr. Chou worked as a clinical chemist scientist at the Nichols Institute for Endocrinology from 1973 to 1976, which is now known as Quest Diagnostics Labs. which is not only located in the US but also all over the world. Outside of his primary vocational circles, Dr. Chou has provided his expertise as a consultant for ICL Scientific Inc.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Agricultural Chemistry at National Chung-Hsing University in 1954, Dr. Chou taught chemistry at the Chisan Agricultural Vocational School from 1954 until 1956 in Taiwan. He subsequently decided to travel to the U.S. to further his education, with the expectation of returning home to open a pineapple processing factory. However, he seized upon opportunities he received in America to enjoy a full life and wonderful career. Dr. Chou notably completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Food Technology at Oregon State University in 1958, a Master of Science (MS) in Food Science at Washington State University in 1960, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry at the University of Missouri in 1968, where he undertook a postdoctoral fellowship for an additional year. He is a licensed Clinical Chemist in California and a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (DABCC).
Still bearing a deep connection with his native Taiwan, Dr. Chou donated $700,000.00 through Presbyterian Church (USA) Foundation, to the Chi-Hou Presbyterian Church in Kaohsiung in 2017 to develop Chou Zuei Memorial House of Devotion, and to establish Chou Zuei Evangelical community college in memory of his father, Chou Zuei, MD, who donated three lands to build three churches in Taiwan. Aligned with several prominent professional organizations relative to his career, he is a past president of the North American Chinese Clinical Chemistry Association. Dr. Chou is also a member of the California Association for Medical Laboratory Technology (CALMT), Clinical Ligand Assay Society (CLAS), and the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC).
