RANSON, WV, November 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alice Friends has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
An experienced and highly qualified Deaf culture and American Sign Language professional, Ms. Friends excels as the owner, the founder and the chief executive officer of Friends Interpreting Services LLC, which she established in 2011. As the owner of Friends Interpreting Services, Ms. Friends assesses requests for people that are in need of sign language services and matches those requests with someone qualified for the position.
Prior to her present position, Ms. Friends gained valuable expertise in the field as an adjunct faculty sign language instructor with Montgomery College, an accountant assistant for Sign Language Associates and an administrative assistant for Telecommunication for the Deaf Inc. Throughout her career, she honed her expertise in a variety of areas, including American Sign Language, tactile sign and Signed Exact English, ASL-to-English services and coordinating interpreting services for contracts, conferences and ongoing assignments. Even though her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Friends is especially proud of establishing Friends Interpreting Services LLC and obtaining a number of certifications in the industry.
An expert in her field, Ms. Friends earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Gallaudet University and a Master of Science in Deaf Education from McDaniel College. Subsequently, she received an 8a Certified Firm, as well as certifications as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) and an Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Business (EDWOSB). In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she is affiliated with the Registry of Interpreting for the Deaf, West Virginia Association of the Deaf, and the National Association of the Deaf. During her spare time, Ms. Friends contributes to those in need as an advocate for DeafBlind senior citizens in addition to a volunteer instructor and potluck coordinator for the Frederick Church of the Brethren.
With a plethora of knowledge at her disposal, Ms. Friends has authored such works as "Hometown Hero," which was about Deaf individuals in their hometowns and released in 1990, and "Light of a Deaf Woman," which chronicled the lives and professions of 80 Deaf women around the world and was published in 2018. For her outstanding work, she accrued the SBA 2020 West Virginia Woman Owned Small Business of the Year, the 2019 West Virginia Minority Award, the 2018 America Small Business Championship from SCORE and Sam's Club, the Time Off Award from the Social Security Administration, the Rookie of the Year Award from the Sign Language Association.
