An accomplished listee, Dr. Slobin celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Slobin is an esteemed professor emerita and consultant celebrating nearly 40 years of cross-disciplinary expertise in African studies, fine arts and medical sociology. She initially earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Pomona College and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from California College of the Arts. In 1991, Dr. Slobin obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in medical sociology by the University of California San Francisco after extensive dissertation fieldwork analyzing healthcare access and family support in communities in Mali.

After brief terms as a fine arts instructor at Indian Valley Community College and an education coordinator for the National Energy Foundation, Dr. Slobin served as the associate director of continuing education at the University of California San Francisco's department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences until 1986. She further flourished as a research assistant and associate of the University of California. In 1991, she accepted an assistant professor position at North Dakota State University, eventually advancing to the posts of an associate professor and the director of women's studies in 1997. Subsequently, Dr. Slobin excelled as the chairperson of the department of sociology and anthropology at North Dakota State University in 2003 and a professor in the following year before being granted with professor emerita status in 2007.

Dr. Slobin has contributed to research and projects for organizations including the West River Regional Medical Center, the City University of New York Center for Study of Women in Society and Fargo Refugees in the Community. A former visiting instructor at the Cappadocia University Community College in Mustafa Pasa, Turkey, she has authored numerous books, chapters and journal articles, most recently "Repairing Broken Rules: Care-Seeking Narratives for Menstrual Problems in Mali" in 1998. In her retirement from academia, Dr. Slobin focuses on community education and human services outreach as a docent and storyteller for the Asian Art Museum and the California Academy of Sciences, a speaker for the California Pacific Medical Center and a coordinator for the Family Caregivers Support Group, work she considers to be both a calling and a legacy.

In recognition of her diverse career achievements, Dr. Slobin has been presented with the American Sociological Association President's Development Award, a President's Professional Development Award from Women's World of Kampala, Uganda, and induction into the Tapestry of Diverse Talents. She is also noted as a former Anthony fellow of the University of California and a two-time recipient of the Bison Ambassadors Teaching Award. She is a member of the board of the Society of Asian Arts, and remains active with the American Sociological Association, the African Studies Association and the Society for Symbolic Interaction. In her leisure time, Dr. Slobin enjoys the independent study of music and fine arts, maintains a dedicated journaling practice and hopes to write a book about family caregiving.
