MEMPHIS, NY, November 11, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor Gloria Manuel Woolson with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Ms. Woolson celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For more than five decades, Ms. Woolson has shared her passion for learning with students at all levels as a classroom teacher, tutor and professor of various subjects. Raised in a tight-knit rural community with few professional paths available to women, she decided to pursue a career in education at the suggestion of her high school guidance counselor. A graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, Ms. Woolson holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in curriculum development.
Ms. Woolson began her career as a fifth grade teacher for the Auburn Enlarged City School District in 1965, relocating to the Jordan-Elbridge Central School District the following year. In 1970, after several years at the middle school level, she found her niche teaching elementary-aged students, and would spend the next three decades as a third grade teacher and faculty administrator for the district. She retired from public schools in 2002, and transitioned toward adult education in a community college setting. Between 2004 and 2017, Ms. Woolson was a tutor and adjunct faculty member at Cayuga Community College and Onondaga Community College, teaching English and pre-service teacher education classes.
In recognition of her outstanding record of service to her students, Ms. Woolson received a Special Service Award from the Onondaga County Teachers Association and an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Syracuse University School of Education, a distinction she regards as one of the highlights of her career. She is the director of the Spafford Area Historical Society's one-room school program, and an active member of the Plainville United Church of Christ, where she holds a variety of leadership and civic outreach roles. While she currently focuses on travel and community service, Ms. Woolson retains her passion for teaching and hopes to return to the classroom if the opportunity presents itself.
