MEMPHIS, TN, November 17, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Linda Kay Myers has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Following the example of her father, an internist, Dr. Myers pursued a career in medicine, earning an undergraduate degree in South Carolina before completing a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 1978. Upon graduating, she became board certified through the American Board of Pediatrics and finished a residency at St. Louis Children's Hospital, as well as a fellowship through the University of Texas Health Science Center. After completing her fellowship, Dr. Myers worked as a physician in private practice for several years before joining the University of Tennessee Health Science Center as a professor of pediatrics and pediatric rheumatology.
Alongside her work as a professor, Dr. Myers excels as a physician with Rheumatology + Dermatology Associates PC, where she specializes in pediatric scleroderma and lupus, juvenile arthritis, rheumatic and periodic fevers and multiple connective tissue disease. Throughout the course of her career, she has been consistently subsidized by the National Institutes of Health, receiving millions of dollars in grants, including a $1.67 million grant for rheumatoid arthritis research funded by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, a branch of the National Institutes of Health. Additionally, Dr. Myers has contributed to a plethora of articles in professional journals such as "Leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor-1 inhibits T-cell signaling by decreasing protein phosphorylation in the T-cell signaling pathway," which was featured in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
An expert in her field, Dr. Myers has been awarded the title of Master of the American College of Rheumatology. She remains professionally aligned with several organizations, including the American Association of Immunologists, the Society of Pediatric Research, the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, the American of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and the American College of Rheumatology. A champion of her community, she remains involved with the Arthritis Foundation and volunteers at Jambalaya Jubilee, a summer camp. In light of her professional excellence, she received the President's Award through the Tennessee Rheumatology Society in 2018. Looking toward the future, Dr. Myers intends to continue her research work on the receptor LAIR-1 to see if it can be exploited to help "cure" arthritis while she continues to see patients.
