Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs and business owners, Ms. Smith learned early on that she wanted to run a business with integrity and dedication to its customers. She was always interested in criminal and social justice and wanted to pursue an industry that allowed her to gather facts and evidence in order to help others. She studied criminal justice and business at Northwest Florida State College. Ms. Smith began her career as a bailiff-repossession agent outside of Ontario, Canada. After finishing her studies, she wanted to become licensed in repossessions, but instead decided to become a licensed private investigator to have more flexibility in the field. She is also certified in emergency management through George Brown College.
Today, Ms. Smith serves as president of The Smith Investigation Agency, where she offers investigative service to lawyers, businesses, insurance companies and the general public. Her company primarily offers research services as well as surveillance. They specialize in locating missing persons and conducting background checks, pre-employment screening and asset searches. Ms. Smith's business has become the largest and most quality-driven private investigative agency as well as training school for investigators in Canada. As a woman in male-dominated industry, she is proud of her success in the business and to have earned the respect of her male counterparts. For her efforts over the years, she was presented with the Best Woman-Owned Private Investigations Company in East Canada and the Influential Businesswoman Award in 2017. In addition, her business was named the Best Private Investigative Agency in Toronto four years in a row and recently The Smith Investigation Agency won the Leading Corporate Private Investigations Agency of the year in Canada for 2020.
Outside of work, Ms. Smith is active in her community. She also volunteers with local churches and ministries, through which she has traveled on several missionary trips around the world to fight against human trafficking as well as visit orphanages to bring practical skills to the children as well as financial assistance. She is professionally affiliated with the Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan and Manitoba Chamber of Commerce, Divorce Angels the Canadian Private Investigators Resource Centre and many more. Looking toward the future, Ms. Smith plans to expand her business to other parts of Canada and Europe. She would also like to develop a justice division to take on pro bono work and help combat human trafficking.
