Dr. Nakase is a renowned physician and researcher who has excelled as the director of the Cancer Center at Mie University Hospital in Mie, Japan since 2007. Affiliated with the aforementioned hospital since 2001, he began his tenure as an assistant professor in the department of hematology and oncology. Over the past 20 years, he has been instrumental in several significant advances on campus including the foundation of the Mie Medical Security System in 2010. Dr. Nakase has also contributed to the development of the cancer registration system in Mie Prefecture in 2011 and the medical and dental cooperation system in cancer treatment in Mie Prefecture in 2013.
From 1996 to 1997, Dr. Nakase studied immunophenotyping of leukemia as a visiting academic at the Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research with Westmead Hospital, the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney, Australia. He notably pursued an education at Mie University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in the department of medicine, a Doctor of Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy. As a researcher in his field, Dr. Nakase has been particularly interested in the clinical significance of interleukin-2 receptor alpha chain (CD25) expression in leukemia, and has published 14 papers on it as the first author, which can be found in such scholarly journals as the British Journal of Haematology, American Journal of Hematology and Leukemia etc.
Among his other noteworthy roles, Dr. Nakase worked as a physician at several hospitals throughout Japan before accepting his inaugural position with the Mie University Hospital Cancer Center. A member of multiple industry-related organizations in support of his career, he is an elected fellow of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine, a senior fellow of the Japanese Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine and a board certified fellow of the Japanese Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine. Likewise, Dr. Nakase is noted as a board certified member of the Japan Society of Hematology and a member of the Japanese Cancer Association, the Japanese Society of Clinical Oncology and the Japanese Society of Medical Oncology.
