Additionally, she is the author of the acclaimed book "You Have to LAUGH to Keep from CRYING / How to Parent Your Parents," published in 2017, which chronicles her journey with a father-in-law, who was diagnosed with dementia, her mother with Alzheimer's and her father with Parkinson's.
Ms. Canion is driven to fulfill her life ambitions by speaking on many topics, her passion is mostly dedicated to caregivers. She has also created a workbook journal to help others, who are caring for their senior parents. Alongside her work as an author, Ms. Canion serves as chief executive officer of Basket Jacket, LLC, through which she is marketing her new product, the "Basket Jacket." Prior to embarking on her current endeavors, Ms. Canion worked as an event planner for State Farm between 1998 and 2011. Earlier, she served as a teacher, retail store owner, director of Acts Retreat for Theology Services, and as an actress and stunt double for various television series and commercials. Although her career has been filled with professional highlights, she is especially proud of her 20 grandchildren and the awards for her Amazon Best Seller "You Have to LAUGH to Keep from CRYING / How to Parent Your Parents". Throughout her career, she has also authored and co-authored a number of other works, including another Amazon Best Seller "SPARKS -Ignite Your Way to Success", Short Stories by Texas Authors, The Art of Brave Living and will have a story in the March/April 2021 issue of "Angels on Earth Magazine". During COVID, she sewed over 700 mask and gave them to caregivers all over the United States. She also wrote her first children's book: "LOVE BIRDS – Charlie Is Looking for a Mate", to be released Spring 2021.
In 2013, she became a Texas Super Star Master Gardener and wrote a gardening book. To remain abreast of changes in the world, she aligns herself with the caregiver's world and is part of many associations. ABWN, NSA Academy, North Texas Network of Caregivers, DCMGA, the Exchange Club and recently got her NSCC (National Senior Caregivers Certification). She has been a host on Indie Beacon Radio for over two years, interviewing authors all over the world.
In light of her outstanding accomplishments, Ms. Canion has been honored several times, earning a National Merit Award, a Presidential Award for Community Service bestowed upon her by former President Barack Obama, and a Best of Show Award at the Spring Flower Show through the Denton County Master Gardener Association in 2015. She has also been recognized by the Who's Who Library of Congress by having a poem nominated to its ranks and received the Best Self-Help Book Award through the Texas Author Association in 2018. She was just nominated as "Empowered Woman of the Year 2020" and was "Author of the Year 2019" by IAOTP.
