Raised on a farm, Mr. Dalton became accustomed to hard work and the necessity for mechanical repairs, which encouraged him to pursue engineering in college and led him to where he is today. Backed by 15 years of professional expertise in the oil and gas industry in Appalachia, he excels as a senior drilling engineer for Northeast Natural Energy. In his leadership role, he oversees drilling and completions operations of gas wells from planning to execution, and coordinates with regulatory agencies. Outside of his work with Northeast Natural Energy, he parlays his expertise to others at West Virginia University. As an adjunct professor, he developed courses in drilling, stimulation, and asset evaluation for the Statler College of Engineering & Mineral Resources' Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering Department.
Prior to obtaining his current role, Mr. Dalton worked for CNX Resources as a production engineering supervisor between 2017 and 2019 where he led numerous projects in data, machine learning, and automation. Earlier, he gained valuable expertise in the field with CONSOL Energy as lead asset engineer, senior operations engineer, and drilling design engineer. Prior to CONSOL Energy, he served as a research engineer for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In a career filled with highlights, it is difficult to pick one that stands out among the rest. However, while working at CONSOL Energy, he managed a year-and-a-half-long project assisting in the dissolution of a joint venture operatorship, adding over $200MM in value.
An expert in his field, Mr. Dalton earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's of Science in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from West Virginia University in 2008 and 2012, respectively.. He remains professionally aligned with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE) in order to stay abreast of changes in the field. He holds the position of Industry Liaison for the student chapter of AADE at West Virginia University.
A champion of his community and the energy industry, Mr. Dalton has given back through a number of organizations over the years, including the Association of Energy Engineers, the Marcellus Shale Coalition, the Secure Energy for America Campaign, Junior Achievement, and the WVU Alumni Foundation.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, he has contributed to several publications and patents, such as "Solid-Solid Separation in a Bubbling Fluidized Bed Cold Model," "Flow Characterization Study in a Gas-Solid Fluidized Bed using an Electrical Capacitance Volume Tomography" and "Improved Table Feeder Design for Feeding into Bubbling Fluidized Beds." In light of his outstanding body of work, he received Star Fellowship Awards through the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Looking ahead, Mr. Dalton intends to progress into an executive position within the energy industry.
