Having initially begun his academic career in 1962 as a teaching assistant in the department of history, Mr. Moore worked for two years at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. A dedicated educator, he has served as a faculty member at Chaminade University of Honolulu, a private Marianist university in Hawaii, since 1986 in the history department. Teaching various history and political science courses, Mr. Moore also accepted the chairmanship of the Adjunct Faculty Advisory Task Force in 2016. Prior to joining the Chaminade staff, he served as the director of education at Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum. Located in Honolulu, it is the Hawaii State Museum of Natural and Cultural History.
Apart from his full-time teaching commitments, some of Mr. Moore's other noteworthy roles have included five years of service as an instructor in the Hawaii Prison Systems between 1997 and 2002 and an appointment by the college board for APUSH Reader during 2016. Likewise, he was a producer and narrator of film-lecture programs for the National Audubon Society and travelogue forums. He was a member in support of the Hawaii Committee for Humanities between 1976 and 1978. A writer and editor, Mr. Moore has published several books over the years. Some of these include "Total Solar Eclipse Hawaii," "Christmas Comes to Hawaii" and "Summary of History of Anglican and Episcopal Church in Hawaii." He has also served as the editor for the Hawaii Geographic Society's publication in Honolulu since 1978.
A consummate professional, Mr. Moore has been past president of both the Hawaii Museum Association and National Episcopal Historians and Archivists, as well as a former trustee of the Historical Society Episcopal Church. Other memberships to his credit include the American Museum Association, the Hawaiian Historical Society and the American Guild of Organists. Affiliated with The Actors Group, a performing arts theater in Honolulu, since 2017, Mr. Moore is House Manager. In other capacities, he has served his community as a volunteer for the Returned Peace Corps and as a member of the Friends of Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, the Episcopal Environmental Network, the Interfaith Alliance of Hawaii, and the Episcopal Public Policy Network.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts in letters at the University of Oklahoma in 1962, during which time he served in the U.S. Army Reserve Officers' Training on campus between 1958 and 1960. He later attained a Master of Arts in administration at the University of Hawaii in 1971. Additionally, he received a management certificate through Virginia Theological Seminary in 2001. Mr. Moore was a 1961 recipient of the PE-ET Outstanding Senior Men Award and a 1962 President's Religious Leadership Award from the University of Oklahoma.
