PRESCOTT, WI, January 07, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jeffrey B. Ryan has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Ryan grew up in small town with five brothers. Both of his parents worked at the local school and taught him the value of hard work and empathy. In light of their influence, as well as guidance from several good teachers, Mr. Ryan decided to pursue a career in education.
Mr. Ryan received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1988, and then became a teacher at Prescott High School in Wisconsin the following year. For more than 30 years, Mr. Ryan has taught various history courses, including Advanced Placement U.S. history, First Nations history, world history and geography, and civics. He has also worked as a student government advisor and as head baseball coach. In addition to these varied roles, he has served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for eight years.
For his efforts over the years, Mr. Ryan has received much recognition. He received the Ronald Satz Wisconsin "Friend of Indian Education" Award in 2018 and the Herb Kohl Teacher Fellowship Award. He was also named Prescott Community Volunteer of the Year in 1994 and 2014, Prescott Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year, a Wisconsin Indian Education Association Act 31 Gold Standard Teacher, the Gilder Lehrman Wisconsin State History Teacher of the Year, and was one of 12 Finalists nominated for the 2020 Gilder Lehrman National History Teacher of the Year. Recently, he was inducted into the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
Over the years, Mr. Ryan has been most proud of the relationships he has built with the native population in Wisconsin through his work. He attributes his professional success to his self-awareness, and approaches his work from a personal standpoint to make better connections with his students. Civically engaged as well, he volunteers with local veterans' programs and the Wisconsin Network for Peace and Social Justice. He also maintains professional affiliation with the Wisconsin Historical Society, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the Wisconsin Indian Education Association, and the Wisconsin Indian and Logo Task Force. Looking toward the future, Mr. Ryan hopes to travel more with his students as the coordinator of the Study Abroad program, specifically to European countries such as Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
