Ms. Gillman is a nationally-recognized K-12 educator celebrating more than three decades of service to her students and profession. She graduated, summa cum laude, from Felician University (previously college) with a Bachelor of Arts in education, and earned a Master of Arts in education at New York University in 1982. Ms. Gillman is a licensed K-8 educator in the state of New Jersey, with additional endorsements in K-12 education for students with hearing impairments.
Ms. Gillman's career began in 1982 as a fifth grade classroom teacher at St. Angela Merici School. She relocated to Joytown Kent Elementary School the following year to teach fourth and fifth grade students, and spent two years as a language arts and social studies teacher at the Bede School in Englewood, New Jersey. Ms. Gillman joined the staff of the Professional Children's School in New York City in 1986, where she would remain for the next two decades teaching all academic subjects for students in fourth and fifth and grade as well as sixth grade math and science. She left the Professional Children's School in 2006, teaching at Anna C. Scott Elementary School and Yeshivat Noam until 2008, whereupon she returned to New York and taught for the next ten years as a fifth and sixth grade science teacher at the Calhoun School.
Since 2018, Ms. Gillman has served as a scientific specialist at the Browning School, where she works with elementary and middle school students. She is a National Geographic Certified Educator, having completed a rigorous testing and capstone process, an ambassador for the American Museum of Natural History's Half-Earth Project and the NASA Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Mission Program. Likewise, she has presented at numerous regional and state educational conferences, most recently the 2019 STANYS Conference and the 2020 SCONYC Fall Professional Workshop, and is a frequent contributor to journals and professional publications. Well regarded in her field, Ms. Gillman is the recipient of such accolades as the Young Teachers Incentive Award, and has been named to Who's Who in American Universities and as the Urhy Thomson Teacher of the Year by the Calhoun School.
In addition to her work in the classroom, Ms. Gillman is an accomplished performance pianist and violinist. She is in several orchestras including the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the August Symphony Orchestra and the North Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Moreover, Ms. Gillman is a member of the Science Teachers Association of New York State, the National Science Teaching Association and Kappa Delta Pi.
