CHEVY CHASE, MD, January 21, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present David N. Danforth with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Danforth celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Attributing more than four decades to his success in medicine, Dr. Danforth is a surgical oncologist at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in Bethesda, Maryland. Promoted to the role of an associate research physician in 2012, he formerly spent nearly three decades as a senior investigator for the government agency, as well as two years as a senior staff member and three years as a clinical associate. Additionally, Dr. Danforth was aligned with the M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston as a surgical fellow from 1979 to 1980.
Dr. Danforth's interest in his area of medicine was encouraged by his parents, who both distinguished themselves in the field in their own right. After graduating from college, he seized upon the opportunity to serve as a surgical oncology fellow at the NIH and a fellow in surgical oncology in Texas. He took a particular interest in surgery, particularly breast surgery, breast cancer and the scientific aspects of the field. Dr. Danforth's fascination led to an exciting and rewarding career at the NIH, which is known for its incredible breast cancer research program, care measures and research opportunities.
Fortunate to enjoy both patient care and research, Dr. Danforth has learned over the years how to successfully combine both. Continually inspired as treatment care, facilities and technology continue to evolve, he is better able to provide answers, be more helpful in developing new treatments and achieve an increased understanding of disease, which he finds quite stimulating. In the coming years, Dr. Danforth aspires to continue participating in conferences, mentor fellows and conduct research.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Danforth has contributed over 100 scientific peer reviewed articles, as well as multiple book chapters in his field. He also provided his expertise as an editor for Diagnosis and Management of Breast Cancer during 1988. To remain aware of developments in his field, Dr. Danforth is an elected fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is a prominent member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association of Cancer Research and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
Dr. Danforth received a Bachelor of Arts at Northwestern University in 1965 and Master of Science at the University of New Mexico in 1967. Returning to Northwestern, he attained a Doctor of Medicine in 1971. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship and residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center between 1971 and 1979. While completing his medical studies, Dr. Danforth spent two years as a lieutenant commander with the U.S. Public Health Service from 1974 to 1976. He is board certified through the American Board of Surgery.
