Distinguished as a professor emeritus at the University of Arizona in Tucson in 2017, Dr. Glass was fortunate to enjoy a long and successful career on campus for more than 45 years. Hired in 1970 as an assistant professor, he continually advanced to the position of the professor in 1982. He also worked in the field as a senior scientist for Hoffman-La Roche Inc. in Nutley, New Jersey from 1967 to 1970 after serving for one year as a research associate at Stanford University. Dr. Glass has been active as a scientific advisory board member for NAXCOR Inc. in Menlo Park, California since 1987 and as a consultant for several private organizations.
Driven to contribute to the collective knowledge in the field of science, Dr. Glass always attempted to ensure that all of his work could be reproduced by others. During his career, he has very much enjoyed participating in collaborative research with other scientists. Dr. Glass is particularly proud of his efforts in the field of radical chemistry, which has been well-received and garnered a tremendous amount of interest among his peers.
As a seasoned scientist, Dr. Glass holds several patents. He notably completed a significant amount of grant research as a principal or co-principal investigator. Likewise, Dr. Glass had the opportunity to operate as a guest scientist at the Hahn-Meitner Institute in Berlin in 1991, which he cites as a wonderful experience.
Moreover, Dr. Glass has authored numerous articles for various scholarly journals, such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society and Organic Letters. He was also appointed as the editor of a book. Since 1993, he has excelled on the editorial board of Sulfur Letters and Sulfur Reports. An active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. Glass was elected by his peers as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science where he formerly served as president of the Southwest and Rocky Mountain Division during 1988.
Initially pursuing an education at New York University, Dr. Glass earned an undergraduate degree in 1963. He subsequently graduated from Harvard University with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1967. Obtaining several grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Research Corporation since 1970, he was recognized as a senior fellow of the NIH in 1988. Honored for his success, he accepted a Faculty of Science Career Teaching Award in 1990. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Glass has been featured in the 25th and 26th editions of Who's Who in the West.
