As a child in Jamaica, Dr. Willis was always intrigued by the pharmacist in action and would frequently observe the pharmacists at work on her way home from school. This ignited her spark to pursue pharmacy as a carrier. After graduating from pharmacy school, she worked in Jamaica for seven years before migrating to the United States. Unfortunately, there was no foreign pharmacy examination at the time, so she had returned to her studies at Howard University. Dr. Willis further flourished as a pharmacist working in the Critical Care and Operating Room pharmacy before earning a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Florida.
Backed by decades of professional expertise, Dr. Willis currently excels as a clinical coordinator for the intensive care unit and perioperative pharmacy services. Additionally, she serves as a mentor and coach, as well as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents. Even though her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of her growth and development in leadership. She has successfully developed and led an amazing team of pharmacist and technicians. Dr. Willis is also able to show young pharmacists how rewarding the field can be, which has been one of her most significant professional achievements.
Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Willis is affiliated with the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. For her outstanding professional accomplishments, she has been honored on several occasions and with awards for community service. Looking toward the future, Dr. Willis intends to continue working as a pharmacist and obtain a role in pharmacy management before entering a well-deserved retirement.
