Dr. Guichet is an orthopedic surgeon with more than 30 years of groundbreaking experience in limb lengthening and reconstruction. He is internationally recognized as one of the top providers of both cosmetic and therapeutic interventions for short stature, limb deformities and the repair of catastrophic limb trauma. Dr. Guichet is best known for the invention of the Albizzia and the Guichet Nails, patented devices for use in surgical limb lengthening that allow patients to resume normal activity and weight-bearing exercise during the early recovery period, and for his use of external fixators in complex reconstructive bone-lengthening procedures. He also worked in bone healing, functional recovery involving soft tissues and in various other fields in medicine.
A graduate of the University of Aix-Marseilles, Dr. Guichet holds a Master of Science in human biology, with a diploma of further studies, a Doctor of Medicine with an additional Diploma of Surgery from the University of Burgundy, and two Doctor of Philosophy degrees. He undertook multiple intensive internships and residencies in general and orthopedic surgery throughout much of the 1980s at the University Aix-Marseille, the University of Burgundy and Dijon Bourgogne University Hospital, and was additionally selected for an exclusive international research fellowship at the New York University Langone Medical Center Orthopedic Hospital, as well as a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at the University of Lorraine and a Senior Lecturer Honorary Consultant at the University of Sheffield. He has been an orthopedic consultant to the Children's Hospital and Polyclinique de Gentilly in Nancy, France, and has lectured in orthopedics at institutions throughout Europe. Presently, Dr. Guichet has found success as a consulting orthopedic surgeon at the Beauregard Hospital in Marseille, where he has practiced for more than 15 years, the Columbus Clinic Center in Milan, where he has seen patients since 2010 and Princess Grace Hospital in London since 2014.
Dr. Guichet is extensively published and has contributed to journal numerous essential articles, case studies and scientific papers in reconstruction, orthopedics and bone growth. He holds patents for such medical devices as the Albizzia and Guichet Nails, and has consulted for numerous biomedical engineering labs and manufacturers, including Landos, Depuy, Medinov and X-os. As one of the top specialists in his discipline, he is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Society for Children's Orthopaedic Surgery, the British Limb Reconstruction Society, French Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, the French Society of Orthopedics and Trauma.
