GALLOWAY, NJ, March 01, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Donald Edward Dearborn has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An independent education management professional with a proven record of accomplishment spanning more than four decades, Dr. Dearborn earned a Bachelor of Arts from St. Anselm's College in 1961. Upon graduating, he began as a teacher with Alexandria Public Schools in Virginia. After three years in his role as an educator, he became an assistant principal with Alexandria Public Schools, holding the position for two years. During this time, Dr. Dearborn matriculated in George Washington University and received a Master of Arts in 1967, and subsequently, a Doctor of Education in 1972.
Over the years, Dr. Dearborn held a plethora of roles with Alexandria Public Schools, including as the principal from 1967 to 1968, director from 1968 to 1977 and assistant superintendent from 1977 to 1984. He also worked as superintendent of Galloway Township Public Schools between 1984 and 1992 and Ocean City Public Schools from 1992 until retiring in 2005. Due to his considerable expertise, he excelled as a consultant in the field of special education for the Advisory Committee Special Service School District in Atlantic County, New Jersey, between 1989 and 1992 and as an educator with Kean College of New Jersey, the University of Virginia, George Mason University and George Washington University.
To remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Dearborn aligned himself with several organizations, including the Atlantic County School Administrators Association, the Cape May County School Administrators Association, the New Jersey School Board Association, the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum, and the American Association of School Administrators. Outside of his work, he also devoted himself to various committees at the Absecon United Methodist Church.
In light of his outstanding work in the field, Dr. Dearborn was honored on several occasions, including being selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1961 and Who's Who in the East. In 1972, he earned the Outstanding Young Educator of the Year Award through the Alexandria Jaycees. In 1992, he received the Administrator of the Year Award through the New Jersey Association of Educational Office Professionals. In 2005, he received the Keys to Ocean City, the Ocean City Public Schools and the Ocean City Free Public Library. That same year, he received a Piece of The Walk…Martin King Jr. Award for Leadership, Ocean City, NJ, as well as an Honorary Diploma and Class Ring from Ocean City High School. In 2011, he was recognized in the book "Legendary Locals of Ocean City, and in 2018 the Ocean City Crew Boosters named a Shell in his honor. In 2020, he was recognized with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. He has contributed myriad articles to professional journals, and in his spare time, enjoys reading books about history.
