Ms. Vaughn has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in music and education that began in 1984 as choir director and organist at the First Baptist Church of Urbana, Il. Following 9 years of service she devoted another 21 years to Community United Church of Christ in Champaign, IL. Following that she served Zion Lutheran Church in Philo, IL for 2 years. Ms. Vaughn was a tenured faculty member in vocal music of the Urbana School District from 1990 until 2015. She was the accompanist for The Chorale from 1994 until 2001 and taught German at Danville Area Community College from 1996 until 2000.
Since 2017 Ms. Vaughn has been serving St Peters United Church of Christ in Champaign as organist and choir accompanist. She is also a member of the Etude Mozart Music Club and performs regularly.
Ms. Vaughn became interested in music as a child, taking piano lessons and singing in church choir. She also played flute in school band through high school. She received a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance and vocal education and simultaneously a Bachelor of Arts degree in German from Hope College, Holland, MI. Next she earned a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the University of Illinois and then later a Master of Arts degree in German linguistics from the same University. While at Hope College she was able to study abroad in Vienna, Austria and had organ lessons with Peter Planyavsky, a renowned organist/composer. She is also a certified life insurance producer in Illinois and a certified crochet instructor through the Craft Yarn Council. She is a life member of both the American Choral Directors Association and the music honor fraternity, Delta Omicron.
