After her mother was diagnosed with colon cancer, Dr. Gregory became interested in pursuing studies in the field of medicine. Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in physiology and cell biology from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1985, she began working as a research assistant with the Division of Medicine and Immunology at Stanford University Medical Center. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Gregory was admitted to the St. Louis University School of Medicine, where she completed a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1990.
During the early-1990s, Dr. Gregory furthered her expertise in the field as an intern and resident in general surgery at the University of California's San Diego Medical Center, and as a resident in general surgery, fellow in colorectal surgery and research fellow in vascular surgery with St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. Throughout the course of her early career, she gained valuable expertise working at Yale University, and with Theodore Coutsoftides, MD, Inc. Presently, Dr. Gregory excels as a colon and rectal surgeon in private practice, the medical director of the colorectal program and a physician consultant with the Cancer Genetics Program at St. Joseph Hospital Center for Cancer Prevention & Treatment.
Well regarded for her professional expertise, Dr. Gregory has been invited to speak at several lectures for the Case Management Society of America and Myriad Genetics. Alongside other scholars in the field, she has authored such works as "Significant risk factors in elective colorectal surgery," "Utility of endoanal ultrasound in benign anorectal disease," "A late complication of tuberculosis pericarditis after partial pericardial resection" and "A soluble extract from abdominal aortic aneurysm wall stimulates protein secretion and gelatinase expression in cultured macrophage-like cells."
Driven to remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Gregory maintains her affiliation with the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the Association of Women Surgeons, among others. In light of her outstanding body of work, she was named as an Orange County Physician of Excellence in Colon & Rectal Surgery in multiple consecutive years. Looking toward the future, Dr. Gregory intends to expand her use of robotic surgery, help create more public awareness campaigns and continue dedicating herself to surgical mission outreach with the Loloma Foundation.
