Dr Wojciechowski celebrates more than 50 years of globally-recognized expertise in virology and veterinary medicine. He initially completed veterinary coursework at Warsaw Agricultural University-SGGW in 1961) and began his career as a mycologist and antibiotics fermentation master producer for Polfa Pharmaceuticals, with which he would remain for the next year. He continues his education at Warsaw Agricultural University-SGGW, completing a four year PhD Studies (veterinary research) Fellowship in 1963. Before graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Science with an emphasis in microbiology in 1967.
In 1967 Dr.Wojciechowski earned a Doctor of Veterinary Science-specialised in microbiology from the National Veterinary Research Institute in Pulawy. He was recruited as a virology advisor to the Polish Ministry of Agriculture.
From 1967 until 1977 he worked as the head of virology section, an assistant professor of virology at the Laboratory of Veterinary Hygiene in Warsaw mainly on modernization of animal rabies diagnosis introducing fluorescent antibodies test and diagnosis of respiratory viruses of cattle. He was university lecturer on epizootiology) virology (1963-1966) and veterinary propedeutics (1967-1970).
He departed in 1977 to work with the FAO-UN veterinary project as an animal health officer-virology in Kabul Afghanistan and partly the project manager (1977-1981) and at the FAO Animal Production and Health Division, FAG-UN Headquarters, Rome as an animal health officer--virology (1982-1999).
Since 2000, Dr. Wojciechowski has worked as an international consultant on animal health, virology, biotechnology and disease control in the Balkans. He was the scientific advisor to the faculty of veterinary medicine} Warsaw Agricultural University-SGGW.
Dr. Wojciechowski is noted as a former United Nations fellow in veterinary virology and one of the founders of CENTAUR network, the FAG Established: Veterinary Biotechnology; Epidemiology and Food Hygiene Network for Central and Eastern Europe (1997-2005).
Having humanistic interests he was cooperating with Dr. K.M. Millak; Head, Center of History of Veterinary Medicine as the assistant librarian and a university lecturer on veterinary propedeutics. He was the editor of "Flowers for Anna: Memoirs of K.M. Millak 1886-1920" in 2003, the author of "Mikolaj Rej Lycee in Warsaw at the Peak of Stalinism" in 2006 and the encyclopedia: "Contemporary veterinary scientists and humanists-interviews" in 2015. Has prepared historical materials for the Polish Society of Veterinary Sciences.
Dr. Vojciechowski is the author/co-author of over 50 research and 35 review papers; 25 FAO reports, 11 FAG training books, the computerised multimedia manual, OIE and WHO reports, 80 back to office reports from duty travels and one scientific video-film on rinderpest.
He was the advisor to the State Veterinary Institute-Pulawy, the Polish Ministry of Agriculture, and the Polish Society of Veterinary Sciences.
He was nominated for the George C. Poppensiek visiting professor in international veterinary medicine, Cornell University, NY in 2001.
Dr. Wojciechowski's research and policy work has resulted in cooperation on the establishment of the Pan-African rinderpest eradication campaign-PARC, Regional rinderpest campaigns in Asia and Middle East: WAREC, SAREC, Global rinderpest eradication program-GREP which led to global eradication/elimination of rinderpest in 2011. He was the author/co-author of 35 projects and over 60 national projects and 29 Pan African Projects on PARC, African swine fever and Newcastle disease of poultry control.
With collaborators he initiated in 1987 the Pan African Veterinary Vaccine Center-PANVAC in the Ethiopian village Debre-Zeit 50 km. from Addis Ababa. The Center is in 2021 the only African Union-AU institution mandated to provide independent international quality testing of all veterinary vaccines.
Dr. Wojciechowski has emphasized the importance of controlling and preventing the spread of regional livestock diseases, working in the framework of the FAD Established Emergency Prevention System against transboundary animal and plant pests and diseases-EMPRES.
In recognition of his tireless work in global animal medicine, he has been presented with numerous marks of distinction including: those by: the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Food Economy a 1998, a 2013 Medal for the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (former Warsaw Agricultural University-SGGW), a 2011 Amicus Veterinariae Medal, the letter of appreciation from FAG after the declaration of the Global freedom from rinderpest in 2011. He is also the recipient of an Honorary Diploma and a Certificate of Appreciation from PANVAC. He remains affiliated with numerous professional organizations including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society for Microbiology and the Former United Nations Staff Members Association.
In his leisure time, Dr. Wojciechowski enjoys studying history and philosophy of sciences as well as skiing and listening to jazz music.
