NOME, AK, March 17, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marcy O'Neil has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. O'Neil has garnered a laudable reputation as an optometrist on behalf of the Norton Sound Health Corporation since 2010. Throughout this time, she has also distinguished herself in the same capacity with the United States Air Force, serving as the Chief of Aerospace Medicine for Europe's largest fighter wing. Likewise, Dr. O'Neil has earned distinction in positions of high leadership as the Chief of Optometry for the Air National Guard and as the Lead Optometrist at Kaiser Permanente.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry from Missouri State University, Dr. O'Neil resolved to study optometry due to her family history of vision impairment challenges. Having sharpened her focus, she received a Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri and a Master of Science from Champlain College in health care administration.
Throughout her career, Dr. O'Neil is grateful to have developed a wholesome balance between her work and life, which has allowed her to care for both her family and fulfilling activities such as dog mushing and swim coaching. Professionally, she has most enjoyed providing care to her military brothers and sisters and veterans who came before her. She also took great pride in working with Native Alaskans, providing healthcare services to remote locations along the Northwest Alaska coastline. Dr. O'Neil's career has allowed her to travel the world and immerse herself into various cultures ranging from the Siberian Yupik along the US-Russian border to the Maasai people of Kenya promoting safe and accessible healthcare.
For her military efforts, Dr. O'Neil received a Meritorious Service Medal, two Commendation Medals and several Achievement Medals. She has been civically involved with the Laser Center Advisory Board and the Me To We Foundation, as well as a volunteer optometrist for the Special Olympics. She was previously affiliated with the American Optometric Association and is currently a member of her local Rotary club. Looking toward the future, Dr. O'Neil plans to continue working to improve access to underserved populations, specifically in pediatrics through the development of Tundra Health Initiative, a non-profit organization she created with her business partner. She would also like to perform further humanitarian work to underserved communities overseas.
