Supported by more than four decades of professional excellence, Mr. Barrows has distinguished himself as the president of Geologic Reservoir Engineering since 1993, with emphasis on computer analysis techniques for the integration of petrophysics to reservoir engineering. A senior geologist at Black Hills Corporation from 2006 to 2009, he previously worked in the same capacity on behalf of Carbon Energy between 1999 and 2003, as well as climbing the ranks as geologist, senior geologist, supervisor of geology and geologic manager of the western Colorado division of Fuel Resources Development Company from 1976 until 1993. During this time he was active in the exploration and development of oil & gas fields from Texas to Montana. Bearing a keen interest in the sciences associated with the oil and gas business, Mr. Barrows initially entered his profession as a geologist for the American Stratigraphic Company, where he worked from 1974 to 1976.
Prior to embarking on his professional career, Mr. Barrows pursued an education at Fort Hays Kansas State University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in geology in 1971. He continued his education with more course work at the Colorado School of Mines until 1974. Notably, Mr. Barrows served during the Vietnam War as a radio relay and carrier operator from 1968 to 1969, earning the Army Commendation Medal. It was during this time conversations with a fellow soldier inspired him to enter the field of geology after leaving the service.
As a guest speaker and teacher in his field, Mr. Barrows remains active with the Kansas Geologic Society and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Long dedicated to civic advocacy as well, he is an active member of the Golden Church of Christ and has served as the accountant and treasurer. Throughout the course of his impressive career, Mr. Barrows is most proud of his record in the discovery of new oil and gas fields, particularly Coal Bed Methane.
