Driven to excel and help others improve their athletic performances, Mr. Paynter excels as the owner of Higher Power Sports Performance. As the head of the aforementioned organization, he supervises daily operations, including sales, business management and employee training. Before obtaining his current position, Mr. Paynter flourished as an independent contractor, head coach and personal trainer, as well as a personal trainer for East Bank Club.
Mr. Paynter previously coached at every level, working with children in middle school, high school and junior college in addition to division one, two and three athletes. In addition to gaining valuable expertise as the head of the cross country and assistant track and field coach for William Rainey Harper College between 2008 and 2012, he served as a personal trainer at Bally Total Fitness and the head men's and women's coach and director of sports performance at Concordia University. Mr. Paynter found further success as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
An expert in his field, Mr. Paynter initially earned a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences with a minor in chemistry from Illinois State University in 1985. He later graduated with a Master of Science in health and physical education with an emphasis in coaching from Adams State University in 1998. Moreover, Mr. Paynter remained aware of changes in the field through his affiliation with the National Strength and Conditioning Association, USA Weightlifting, USA Track and Field and the International Sports Science Association.
Outside of his primary responsibilities, Mr. Paynter volunteers with various 12-step recovery programs. In recognition of his professional excellence, he was honored as the Coach of the Year for Track and Field in 2004 and the Coach of the Year for Cross County in 2003 and 2004. Additionally, he was presented with the Silver Medal in national championship weightlifting in 2012 and 2013. Even though his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of working with a number of Olympic athletes throughout his career. In the coming years, Mr. Paynter intends to continue on the same path and possibly establish a larger, newer facility.
