Megan Terry Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    OMAHA, NE, March 25, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Megan Terry with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Terry celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. A talented playwright, screenwriter, performer and photographer, Ms. Terry spent her later years as an educator, teaching theater at the University of Nebraska, fine arts at the University of Minneapolis, and humanities as a Bingham professor at the University of Louisville until 1981. Upon her academic retirement, she served as a visiting artist at Emory University, Bucknell University and Texas Tech University, as well as a visiting artist-in-residence at the University of Iowa. Ms. Terry also became active on various professional committees such as the Governor's Committee on Film and Telecommunications, the theatre panel and overview panel of the National Endowment for the Arts, and the theater panel of the Rockefeller Foundation.

Ms. Terry's years in the arts began in 1954 when she began teaching at the Cornish School of Allied Arts, the oldest performance conservatory in Seattle. During her stay, she organized and directed her first ensemble, the Cornish Players. Ms. Terry later became a founding member and director of a playwrights' workshop for the Open Theater in New York City in 1963, where she was responsible for creating her own technique that she later used in her "Viet Rock" production in 1966. She also had the opportunity to serve as an ABC Fellow at the prestigious Yale University in Connecticut and became a founding member and vice president of the New York Theatre Strategy and the Women's Theatre Council.

Throughout her extensive career, Ms. Terry notably produced over 50 works for theater, radio and television between 1955 and 1995. Her plays have been translated into every major language and have been produced worldwide, some of which include "Calm Down Mother," "Comings and Goings," "The Magic Realists," "Objective Love" and "Approaching Simone." Apart from her work in the arts, Ms. Terry has contributed articles to various scholarly journals in her area of expertise and has written numerous articles for The New York Times.

Ms. Terry was born in Seattle. During high school, she participated in school plays and became a member of the Seattle Repertory Playhouse. She then received a scholarship to study at the Banff School of Fine Arts. After a short time, she transferred to the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Ultimately, Ms. Terry graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in education in 1956.

Aligned with the National Education Association, Ms. Terry was a member, reporter and panelist for its theatre program between 1975 and 1985. She was also a founding member of the Women's Theatre Council, a charter member of the Women's Forum and a member of New Dramatists. Further, Ms. Terry has been an instrumental member of the American Theatre Association, where she chaired several programs and committees, and also for Theatre Communications Group and the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People as a member of the board of directors.

Ms. Terry received Rockefeller grants in 1968 and 1987, as well as Fellowships from the National Education Association and the Guggenheim Foundation. In honor of her many accomplishments, she received the University of Minnesota's Office of Advanced Drama Research Award in 1965, and a Dramatists Guild Committee of Women Annual Award in 1983. Among other accolades, she was named Nebraska Artist of the Year in 1992.

From 1972 onward, Terry was Literary Manager, performer, photographer, and musician for the Omaha Magic Theatre led by Artistic Director, JoAnn Schmidman. OMT was awarded an NEA grant to publish twenty years of new plays by new and emerging playwrights. Their book, Right Brain Vacation Photos, is sought by drama libraries worldwide. OMT was invited to play their final production of Megan Terry's, "Star Path Moon Stop" in 1996 at the Suwan, Korea International Theatre Festival, South Korea.
A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Terry has been cited in the 44th through 53rd editions of Who's Who in America, the first and second editions of Who's Who in Entertainment, and the 19th through 21st editions of Who's Who of American Women.
