MINNEAPOLIS, MN, March 25, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wallace K. Swan has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. After taking a class in public administration at the University of Idaho, Dr. Swan was inspired to pursue a career in the field and earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Idaho and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Following this accomplishment, he gained valuable expel1ise in the field of public administration, where he worked in the Minnesota Department of Public Welfare, Hennepin County Welfare Department and Hennepin County Community Services Department. While working for Hennepin County, he furthered his education with a second Master of Public Administration (1978) and a Doctor of Public Administration (1979) from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Swan has been employed at several institutions, including the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Nova Southeastern University, the University of St. Thomas and Metropolitan State University (St. Paul). Presently, he is a Contributing Faculty Member at Walden University, where he is currently teaching in the Masters and Doctorate in Public Administration program. Dr. Swan is also the president of Wallace Swan and Associates where he has managed campaigns for a number of federal, state, county and city candidates based upon his experience in running for and serving as President and Vice President of the Minneapolis Board of Estimate and Taxation.
Well regarded for his breadth of knowledge, Dr. Swan has contributed to a variety of books, articles, book chapters and proceedings. He is most proud to have edited the first LGBT book in the field of public administration entitled "Breaking the Silence: Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Issues in Public Administration" in 1995. As a result of the publication of the book, Dr. Swan was awarded the Myers Center Study Award for Human Rights in North America. He has followed this accomplishment by editing "GLBT Public Policy Issues: A Citizen's and Administrator's Guide to the New Cultural Struggle" (1997); "Handbook of GLBT Administration and Policy" (2004); "Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Civil Rights: A Public Policy Agenda for Uniting a Divided America" (2015), and "The Routledge Handbook of LGBTQIA Administration and Policy" (2019) all available through Amazon.
Remaining aware of changes in the field, Dr. Swan is quite active in the American Society for Public Administration (where he served as Chair of a Section) and is an associate member of the Government Finance Officers Association. As a voluntary contribution, he is currently serving as a member on the Board of Rainbow Health Minnesota.
