MIAMI, FL, April 06, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alex A. Alfonso has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Though he initially aspired to become an art teacher, Mr. Alfonso resolved to pursue a career in criminal justice. Having earned an Associate of Arts in visual and performing arts from the New World School of the Arts College, he subsequently attained a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Lynn University, whereupon he took a Southern Police Institute Command Officer development course at the University of Louisville. Following this accomplishment, he began working as a police officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department. During this 20-year career, he served as a police officer, Police Sergeant, and Police Lieutenant. During this period, he worked uniformed patrol, general investigations, domestic crimes, and various administrative assignments. Presently, Mr. Alfonso excels as the division director of the Fleet Management Division at the Miami-Dade County Internal Services Department. Moreover, he has found success as a reserve police officer at the Miami-Dade Police Department and as a part-time instructor at the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute (SPI).
As the head of the Fleet Management Division, Mr. Alfonso oversees a budget of about 85 million dollars, 19 repair facilities and 29 fuel facilities. The department services more than 10,000 vehicles, as well as provides fuel services to 12,000 vehicles throughout the county and municipal agencies. Moreover, they provide maintenance and repairs for 90% of the county, and fuel for 95% of the county.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Alfonso has been presented with the Silver Medal of Honor and various commendations. Under his direction, his Division was ranked as 23rd in the 100 Best Green Fleet Award, been recognized two years in a row as one the 50 Leading Fleets by Government Fleet Magazine, and in 2019 was awarded first in the 100 Best Fleets of North America. Likewise, Mr. Alfonso is most proud that his division received a proclamation from the board of the county commission, which he has dedicated to the strident efforts of his employees.
Mr. Alfonso has attributed his professional success to his curiosity, which has allowed him to remain active and driven in his career. He maintains his affiliation with the Florida Association of Government Fleet Administrators and the NAFA Fleet Management Association. Looking toward the future, Mr. Alfonso plans to continue growing within the organization.
