MANHATTAN BEACH, CA, April 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gloria D. Lee has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For more than six decades, Gloria D. Lee has dedicated her professional life to the balance of education and art. When she hasn't been shaping the minds of children and adults alike throughout California and beyond, she's been creating a name for herself through her countless paintings and art pieces displayed in galleries and other venues. She has long served as an impactful and compassionate teacher at LA Unified's Division of Adult and Career Education, helping more than 68,000 adult students annually prosper in academic studies and finding employment.
Upon graduation from high school, the Iowa native equipped herself with higher education at the University of Iowa, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1959. She subsequently landed a teaching job at Garden Grove Unified School District in California, a position she held until 1964—at which point she taught for a year at Las Vegas Unified School District. In the midst of her next role as a teacher at Compton Unified School District, from 1964 to 1972, she acquired a postgraduate degree at Otis College of Art and Design in 1968. She would also obtain a degree from the University of California as completion of her education.
Ms. Lee became a private tutor of academics at Positive Parenting in Manhattan Beach in 1978, and has remained active in the post ever since. Between 1984 and 1996, she taught at Manhattan Beach Unified School District and tutored at Keys to Learning, which provides K-12 instruction throughout South Bay LA communities—meeting students at their homes, libraries, school sites, and any other public location. Since 1993, Ms. Lee has excelled at the Division of Adult and Career Education.
Outside of her primary responsibilities, Ms. Lee has been active in the fields of education, art, and generally helping others succeed. She has taught painting at several facilities, including Beverly Hills Recreation, the El Segundo Recreation Senior Center, and Palos Verdes Art Center. She served as the director of Palos Verdes Artists from 1985 to 1989 and has been a juried associate at Women Artists of the West since 1992, the Fine Arts Institute in San Bernardino since 1995, and Watercolor West since 1996, among several other endeavors. As an artist of her own, she has displayed her work at numerous one-woman shows and group exhibitions at such venues as the South Bay Watercolor Exhibition, The Loft Gallery, Gate Gallery, Palos Verdes Art Center, and Joslyn Fine Arts Gallery, among others, as well as been represented in various private collections. Additionally, her watercolors were added to the UCLA Medical Center collection in 1998 and she was represented by the Artist's Studio Galleries in Palo Verdes from 1987 to 1999.
As a testament to her success in her field, Ms. Lee was honored with the title of Outstanding Teacher of the Year from Emerson Adult School in 2005. She has also remained connected to the art world as a devoted member of the South Bay Watercolor Society, the National Acrylic Painters Association, the L.A. Printmaking Society, the California Watercolor Association, the Pacific Art Guild, the Women Artists of the West, Women Painters West, and the National Watercolor Society—for which she has been vice president and communications officer.
When she isn't busy teaching or painting, Ms. Lee enjoys gardening and reading and spending time with her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Robert.
