Beginning her career as a hair stylist in Sydney, Australia, at the age of 15, Ms. Andrews found much success in her field as she progressed as an artist and a business owner. Within 5 years, she was operating as the owner of five hair salons. Her encounters with a local art instructor inspired her to shift the direction of her professional path towards her artistic endeavors. Reticent about adjusting her life in such a radical manner while still in her early 30s, Ms. Andrews received the proper encouragement and support to sell her salons and pursue her art degrees.
Initially instructing art workshops for seasonal courses at Charles Sturt University, Ms. Andrews was later accepted into the City Art Institute in Sydney, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1986 following a transformative experience that convinced her to dedicate her attention to a full-time career in the arts. Upon obtaining her postgraduate degree in professional art studies from the aforementioned institute in 1987, she established the Northside Art School, a 400-student school located on the northern beaches of Sydney. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Andrews found herself in high demand as an art teacher, conducting workshops throughout Australia before eventually receiving invitations to teach in the United States and Europe.
Ms. Andrews subsequently relocated to the United States, where she flourished as an artist in Maui, Hawaii. Opening two galleries during her 12 years in the state, an experience that she cites among the highlights of her career, she garnered much acclaim and interest for her artwork, which spans across many forms of media including oils, acrylics, watercolor and pastels. Influenced by color, movement and tonal drama, Ms. Andrews has accrued a number of accolades over the course of her career, including many Best of Shows and numerous art awards.
Now residing in Texas, Ms. Andrews currently excels as an independent artist and the owner of Rae Andrews Fine Art, through which she offers painting and art lessons to the next generation of prospective artists. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, she currently teaches her clients through Zoom while producing video tutorials on YouTube. Likewise, Ms. Andrews continues to focus on her own artwork, which encompasses many different genres, in her private studio on a daily basis.
Ms. Andrews credits her impressive success to her propensity for helping others, in addition to her steadfast desire to help her students achieve greatness. Having donated many paintings to those less fortunate, she notably maintains her affiliation with the Waterloo Watercolor Group and the Austin Pastel Society, among other organizations. In the coming years, Ms. Andrews plans to continue painting and traveling overseas following the pandemic.
