Andrew Michael Heitzmann Honored for his Contributions to the Military and Nursing

With the benefits of a strong work ethic and a diverse skill set, Mr. Heitzmann wishes to take on the aviation industry

DUMFRIES, VA, April 21, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Andrew Michael Heitzmann has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Driven by a love for education, a strong work ethic, and an ability to be well-rounded, Andrew Michael Heitzmann has built an impressive and accomplished career that has spanned various fields and professional roles over the course of two decades.

Initially, Mr. Heitzmann was interested in pursuing a future as an electrician and knew he wanted to sharpen his skills and get involved in general engineering; he wanted to be great in physics and electricity in order to earn a position within those fields. Upon graduating from high school, he earned an Associate of Science and an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Northern Virginia Community College in 1997 and 2001—respectively. He then continued his academics by attending George Mason University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2006. Wanting to build his character and gain hands-on experience, Mr. Heitzmann lent his expertise in emergency nursing, medical surgical nursing, and electronics to the U.S. Army, through which he became a registered nurse at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 2007 to 2010—where he achieved the ranks of First Lieutenant in adult general medicine and Captain within the Cardiothoracic Step Down Unit.

Heitzmann then found success as a registered nurse and a Captain in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps from 2010 to 2012. During his time in the military, he learned core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage—all of which have motivated him throughout the rest of his career. He followed this appointment by becoming a nurse supervisor at HCR ManorCare from 2012 to 2013 and a loader at Lowe's Home Improvement the next year. A longtime volunteer within the local fire department, he has been a member of Action in the Community Through Service—an independent nonprofit that provides basic needs and help to residents through the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park in Virginia—since 2015. He has also been involved in community foot races.

In 2017, Mr. Heitzmann—who was developing an interest in some courses offered at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, including airplane and helicopter flying lessons—met one of the school's administrators, who offered him a full GI bill and, through that, he began his studies there for about two years. In addition to being a licensed mechanic and power plant mechanic, he equipped himself with certification as an Aircraft Electronics Technician through ASTM International's National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies, also known as NCATT, in 2019. Mr. Heitzmann ultimately graduated summa cum laude and as salutatorian from the Aviation Institute of Maintenance in August 2020—which he considers his greatest personal achievement. While he is currently working as a grill operator at the Waffle House, he hopes to advance to a managerial position and find substantial work in the aviation industry once the COVID-19 pandemic settles down.

Speaking to future professionals, Mr. Heitzmann advises that they prioritize education, hard work, and building character. He said, "You have to make a commitment to your homework, you have to study, but you also have to try to get out into the community. You have to develop your personal experiences anyway you can." He stressed the importance of growing from those experiences and doing as much as you can as "you never know what strengths you will have to fall back on in the future."

Grateful for being able to go to school and work since 1994, Mr. Heitzmann hopes to be remembered by his peers as an honest person who worked extremely hard. When he isn't focused on his career and educating himself, he takes great solace in meditation, prayer, running, swimming, and reading.
