Prior to obtaining his current positions, he drove growth for multimillion dollar operations in the United States, Canada, South Africa and Mexico as the senior vice president of trucking for USA Truck Inc. The company notably provides comprehensive capacity solutions via their extensive portfolio of 1,800 power units, 5,600 trailers and 1,900 driver team members.
Having accrued nearly two decades of experience as an executive, Mr. Hugo managed more than $400 million in profit and loss operations with USA Truck. Additionally, he created density and increased rate per loaded mile 22% from $1.85 to $2.25, expanded the customer base through improved service labels, reduced cost per mile and improved the operating ratio from 103.4 to 96.1. Moreover, during an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Hugo worked as the chief operating officer of 7 Hills Transport Inc., the vice president of operations for CRST International, where he managed more than 3,700 drivers, the chief operating officer of Star Transport and the president of Rack on Trucking Inc. For seven years, he was also a professional rugby player.
A member of the local chamber of commerce and the National Wood Pallet and Container Association, Mr. Hugo holds an Associate of Science in business retail management from Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Though his career has been suffused with highlights, he is most proud to have been a member of the executive team at USA Truck. When he began at the company, they were close to bankruptcy and fighting a hostile takeover from a larger firm. With his help, USA Truck performed a 180-degree turn within a year and became a publicly recognized, progressive and successful transportation management company. In the coming years, Mr Hugo intends to grow General Pallets & Crates organically and/or through acquisitions.
