BURLINGTON, NJ, May 24, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Suzanne E. Woodard, MPA, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. As a city councilor, Ms. Woodard works tirelessly to serve the City of Burlington. She is tasked with representing one of the oldest and most historic communities in the state of New Jersey, which encompasses approximately 10,000 people. In this capacity, she is faced with finding solutions to various calamities each day, including providing aid to those who suffer from homelessness. Prior to her work with the Burlington City Council, Ms. Woodard found success as a supervisor for Megabus, a school bus driver for Burlington County Special Services and an assistant superintendent and freight brakeman at NJ TRANSIT & Conrail. Additionally, she owned her own franchised location of ComforCare.
Ms. Woodard initiated Bachelor's coursework at Dickinson College in 1969-71 before obtaining a bachelor's degree in political science from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, from which she later earned a Master of Public Administration and was inducted into Public Administrations Honor Society. In addition, she held membership in the UTU, and Teamsters, and is a current Board member with Arc of Burlington County and BCCAP of Burlington County.
Ms. Woodard is proud have been one of the first African American women employed by Conrail as a freight brakeman. Likewise, was one of 7 selected out of hundreds to become a participant in NJ Transit's 1st Executive Associate Program, she is honored to have been the recipient of a Mary L. Riggins Award during Women's History Month from the New Jersey Transit Corporation in 2004. She attributes her success to her passion for helping others, as well as the influence of her mother, who worked in the Recreation Department of the Army as a uniformed civilian during World War II, and who knew many renowned musicians and actors, and her Grandfather, Rev W.I. Wright, a pastor in Florence & Burlington NJ. Growing up in a household that always went above and beyond in the field of public service, Ms. Woodard cannot remember a time where she did not want to help people in any way that she could.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Woodard supports building more housing in the communities that she represents and developing avenues to careers and trades for youth. Moreover, she seeks to enhance the presence of arts and culture to the city to attract additional revenue and visitors that possess intellectual diversity.
