Well regarded in the field of neurology, Dr. Pysh earned the distinguished title of an emeritus professor of neurology at Michigan State University in 2000. At the aforementioned academic institution, he served as the founding director of the neurology residency program between 2001 and 2003 and an associate professor of neurology from 1986 to 1995. A resident physician in neurology at Northwestern University from 1983 until 1986, Dr. Pysh previously contributed to the university as the acting chairperson of cell biology and anatomy and as an instructor and associate professor of anatomy.
In order to prepare for his impressive career, Dr. Pysh pursued an education at Wayne State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1958. Obtaining a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University in 1962, he later earned a Doctor of Philosophy in neuroanatomy from Northwestern University in 1967. Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry since 1993, Dr. Pysh previously completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuroanatomy as a United States Public Health Service Fellow at Northwestern University in 1966.
Among his numerous achievements, Dr. Pysh accepted a fellowship from the American College of Neuropsychiatrists in 2002, the American Neurological Association in 2013 and the American Academy of Neurology in 2014. A contributor of numerous articles to professional journals, he was the first to demonstrate the role of synaptic vesicle exocytosis in in synaptic transmission at a neuronal-synapse and the first to demonstrate that exercise enhances the development of a brain motor neuron dendritic tree. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Pysh has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
