After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan in 1964, Mr. Sinclair served in the Vietnam War as a junior level lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve for three years. Upon his return to the U.S., he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the aforementioned university in 1971. Throughout the following six years, Mr. Sinclair practiced law for several firms before shifting his focus towards commercial and investment real estate analysis.
Mr. Sinclair thrived as a real estate broker, consultant and acquisitions manager for more than ten years. In the early 1990s, he harnessed his vast real estate expertise to write a guidebook for aspiring investors called "Real Numbers – Analyzing Income Properties for a Profitable Investment." During this period, he also became fascinated by the rise of digital technology within the surrounding San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. Sinclair subsequently wrote 20 books on a variety of technology-related topics such as typography, website development and finding success as an eBay seller.
Since 2018, Mr. Sinclair has continued publishing technology books through his own publishing company, Appworth Media. He is currently concentrating entirely on writing and publishing, though he did previously return to his work in real estate investments for a brief period. In his spare time, Mr. Sinclair enjoys fine arts photography, skiing, hiking and fly-fishing.
